On November 1, 1992, after the successful spin-off of the Film Office to a regional agency, Peter Leokum joined the Greater Philadelphia Film Office as its Deputy Director. In addition to serving as backup to the Executive Director, he is responsible for ensuring that film, video and commercial productions run as smoothly as possible. To this end, he serves as liaison with city agencies to meet production needs, obtains production permits, assists production staff in securing locations for shoots, and ensure that productions run as smoothly as possible so that the region’s reputation is an incentive for repeat and new production.
Born in New York and raised in Connecticut, Mr. Leokum graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. He came to the Greater Philadelphia Film Office with over twenty years in the motion picture industry. Working in the distribution side of the business, his affiliations included such companies Warner Brothers, United Artists, Avco Embassy and Orion. Mr. Leokum served as Branch Manager in Philadelphia for nine years, distributing motion pictures to theaters in Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. He has been able to use his knowledge of the industry and the Philadelphia area in successfully promoting the region to potential production companies.
Since joining the Film Office, Mr. Leokum has been responsible for collaborating with production companies on feature films, made-for-TV movies, television series, independent production projects, commercials, industrials and music videos. His success in “making things happen” in Philadelphia is what has earned him the respect of local production companies and industry people. More importantly, this success has reinforced Philadelphia’s national reputation as the city to bring your production.
