Call for Entries: The Festival of Independents

The 17th Philadelphia Film Festival is fast approaching!
April 3rd – 16th 2008
http://www.phillyfests.com

It remains the nations largest International film festival, and attracts up to 65,000 people during it’s run. Moviemaker magazine and Filmmaker magazine have both listed this festival as one of the top 3 in the country, and Philadelphia as one of the bestcities in the nation to shoot films in. Also- the International 48 Hour Film Project has again choose the Philadelphia Film Festivalas the kick-off of it’s 2008 tour!

Within the 2008 Philadelphia Film Festival is another festival:THE FESTIVAL OF INDEPENDENTS presented by DIVE (a division of SHOOTERS) showcasing and celebrating regional filmmakers, and their individual visions. Fest Indies has been a component within the Philly Film Fest, since year one.and has excelled at bringing filmmakers and audiences together. The festival is managed by the non-profit Philadelphia Film Society, which also manages the Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

The Festival of Independents presents Philadelphia to theWorld. It allows visitors from across the globe to see for themselveswhy Philly is regarded (rightly) as a hub for creative talent. We need to find great work to showcase!Because nothing would happen without the local filmmakerscreating work that have something to say to audiences. Last year the Festival of Independents presented over 50 films to the festival audiences, and most were premieres(both features and short films). This year we’re doing the same. Further, last year was a smashing success for screenings, attendance, special events, and of course parties(including a special animation evening with our friends from ADULT SWIM)This year we’re going forward with plans to maintain that level of excitement. But nothing would happen without the regional filmmakers, who create films that audiences can appreciate.

The categories are: Documentary- Narrative – Short- Animation- Experimental- Feature length

This year’s Fest Indies will have a wide range of opportunties to all attendees, including: Late-night Screenings, Special Events and Opening and Closing night Parties. All events throughout the festival are open to the public (most are free). This gives aspiring creators the opportunity to mingle with established veterans within the film industry, as well as helping to developworking relationships within the regional filmmaking communities.
