The tremendously powerful documentary serves as the centerpiece of a film festival in the riverside community of New Hope, Pennsylvania presented with creative and artistic support from the Philadelphia Film Society and TLA Distribution. Winner of the 2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short, “Freeheld” chronicles Detective Lieutenant Laurel Hester’s struggle to transfer her earned pension to her domestic partner, Stacie Andree. The film depicts the media frenzy, political repercussions and advocacy campaign spurred from a true life drama of a lesbian couple facing an uncertain future.
