Student Films Across America Philadelphia Screening

My name is Sam Sero and I am a recent graduate from Temple University’s Film and Media Arts program. I currently work and reside in Los Angeles. My Senior Thesis film, Refuge, was the first film submitted to the early deadline and I was the first person to submit from Temple. The festival directors asked me to run the Philly screening at the International House during Temple’s Spring Break (March 9-17). My responsibilities include fund raising, promotional work, organization and picking which films get screened at this year’s screening. I can pick any number of films to screen and for as many days I want during Temple’s Spring Break. If you have any questions about submitting, please contact me. You can submit on line through their site or if you have a withoutabox account, you can do it through withoutabox.com. Also you well get to speak to the audience before we screen your film.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR DPS, EDITORS AND PRODUCTION DESIGNERS:
I will also accept reels and screen them during transitions from one film to the next.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Student Films Across America is a large-scale festival, made up of dozens of shows on high school and college campuses between March 15th and April 15th. With shows being organized by members of the school community, each screening will be a mixture of the best films from around the world, as well as the best films from the area.
ORGANIZERS:
Brian Amos

GENERAL RULES
To be considered “high school” or “college”, the directors and 50% of the crew must fall into that category at the time of production. Please send proof of enrollment from the director’s for college students, this means a copy of your student ID. We know that with high schools, this may be a bit more difficult; if your school doesn’t have IDs, send some sort of other proof of enrollment. Filmmakers should be able to produce a cast and crew list and proof of enrollment for everyone involved in the film upon request (we probably won’t request unless a lot of people on camera look too old, though).

Students must be 29 years old or younger as of March 15th, 2008.

Submitter takes all responsibility for obtaining copyright clearances and licensing. While we may not check it, any complaints given to us about your film in this regard will be forwarded to you. It probably won’t be an issue, but be aware.

Films may not be older than January 1st, 2007, with that date being the date of completion. You may not reenter a film submitted to last year’s festival unless you’ve made significant edits to it.

All judging decisions made by Student Films Across America are final.

We will award prizes for each of the three genres: comedy, documentary, and drama. These three winners will be played at every school, with the possible exception of a film with adult themes at an all-ages show. We will also award a prize for the best film made by a high school director. Winners in all categories will be chosen by a panel of judges from the entertainment community, and finalists and winners will be announced near the beginning of March.

A current list of shows is available at studentfilmsacrossamerica.com, and the list will probably grow up until March 15th. (If you’d like to organize a show, click the “contact” tab on the website). Your film may be selected by any number of show organizers, and we will contact you if you’ve been selected as we hear from each school.

The festival only accepts submissions on DVDs (region 0 or 1) or MiniDVs. These will be used to judge acceptance to the festival, and screening in the festival if accepted.

Not all submissions will be screened at the festival.

The festival is not responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged tapes or discs. We recommend sending your submissions in a padded mailer to protect from damage.
