Business

Since 1992, the economic impact of regional film & video production has exceeded $3 billion. That means when a production comes to town, at least 150 jobs are created and all types of businesses benefit, including taxi drivers, greensmen, hotels, art supply vendors, clothing boutiques, music studios, etc. In addition, we process all permits, police and location requests for every project that comes through our office. We rely on partnerships, grants and donations to keep our doors open so we can provide these services free of charge.

Education

The Tripod Initiative matches professional filmmakers with students to produce projects that serve our production community & local non-profits. The current goal for Tripod is expansion to include high school students by implementing an intensive summer film production boot camp. With adequate funding, Tripod will grow into a more comprehensive program to train a film workforce allowing local residents to take advantage of jobs being generated by the current production boom in Philadelphia.

'Filmmakers'

The Film Office is not only committed to attracting production to the region for the sake of economic development, we are also steadfast in nurturing the local industry in every way. The "Set in Philadelphia" Screenwriting Competition (SIP) is open to all screenwriters worldwide who submit an original screenplay set primarily in the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. In addition, our year-round workshops, panels and screenings give filmmakers the opportunity to share ideas, inspire one another and explore potential synergies.

Sustainability

GreenerSETS is the latest installment of GPFO's Going Greener initiative. The aim is to educate and encourage the local film community to adopt eco-friendly practices on "set" and in production offices. The complete downloadable version of the SETS resource guide is available at www.film.org/greenerSETS. Our "Crew Pass" program, a "green" replacement of our "Welcome Bag," is our way of fostering strong connections between local and visiting crew, movie lovers and the film-friendly businesses in the area. Please support these programs and help us continue to build our sustainable production company.

Diversity

The mission of GPFO's Multicultural Affairs Department is to identify unique barriers of entry for filmmakers and crew in underserved and underrepresented ethnic and social groups; as well as to work within these communities to help cultivate tangible career paths. The Multicultural Affairs Department is currently working towards its vision of offering vocational scholarships and maintaining a training fund for deserving members of marginalized communities.

The Greater Philadelphia Film Office is a 501 c 3 non-profit corporation. All donations are tax-deductible donations.
