After Joey Nardone, a former heavy-weight boxer hailing from the unforgiving streets of one of Philadelphia's toughest neighborhoods returns to his old stomping grounds, his present-day lack of interest and enthusiasm for life soon dulls the excitement of his homecoming of his close family and friends. After accepting a job in his old boxing gym in an attempt to establish some type of routine, he stumbles upon Jesus, a 14 year-old Puerto Rican boy who suffers repeated physical abuse at the hand of an alcoholic father and hordes verbal abuse at the hand of a local bully. Throughout the film both Joey and Jesus form a truly organic frienship which allows each to gain a new perspective and foothold on life that neither previously possessed.
