COMMUNITY PARTNERS

The Greater Philadelphia Film Office is a frequent partner with other non-profit organizations serving the local film production community. We encourage and support the continued service and programming presented by the following organizations.

The Big Picture Alliance

Educates disadvantaged and undeserved youth in developing self-expression, life and job skills through the inspiring and collaborative process of creating media arts. Partnering with schools, community centers and arts organizations, the Big Picture Alliance directs young people's interest in media making to develop language and communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork and self-esteem. Students create projects that speak of their lives, dreams and communities. Their work is showcased in community screenings, film festivals and online media portals to reach a wide audience, including successive groups of young people who hear and respond to the voices of their peers.

THE GREATER READING FILM COMMISSION

The Greater Reading Film Commission (GRFC) is excited to be a community partner with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office.

The GRFC promotes Reading and Berks County, PA as a location for film, TV, and digital media projects, facilitates production by connecting filmmakers and producers with locations, resources and services in the region, and cultivates the development of a regional film industry.

A short distance (typically about a one hour drive) from the Greater Philadelphia Region, Reading is a wonderful complement to the aesthetic environs of its more cosmopolitan counterpart.

Greater Reading has a reputation as a cultural and artistic destination with its Pennsylvania Dutch and Lenape roots.

It also is the center of many historic sites dating back to the 1700s, from Conrad Weiser, Daniel Boone and Abraham Lincoln all enjoying what the area had to offer. With lush countryside and a beautiful, historic city, Greater Reading has been known for its railroad (with tracks that are operational today, running through the downtown), manufacturing and textile industries. The region boasts sites reminiscent of old world charm and glamour, with many classic town squares and “main streets,” while at the same time possesses the allure of a vibrant, contemporary urban area.

The area is also known for its outdoor recreational areas with hundreds of acres of parks, forests, lakes and a river that runs right along the city proper.

We look forward to working with you and our friends at the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and “Making Movies Happen!”

Youth Empowerment Services

A place where youth who’ve dropped out of school can discover their talents and dreams, while developing academic and job-related skills. YES programs attract youth, because they get to do things that are important to them. Once they find out that they want to learn, we help them set goals and achieve them by using innovative practices and highly talented staff to improve literacy skills and the practical and technical skills youth need to succeed in the workplace.

YES’ year-round open entry program combines enticing media and art activities with proven counseling models, GED preparatory classes and job-readiness training. Often, students who were not inspired by traditional school become fully engaged in creating original art or media projects. Our courses are designed to develop literacy and other academic skills through projects like producing music videos. Once students have completed introductory courses, they can continue into more advanced training. Graduates are placed into continuing education programs or jobs provided by a broad network of peer organizations and corporations.
