Factory Movie

Posted on January 16, 2010

CarlAn absurdist dark comedy about a factory worker's search for happiness

Please email for an audition slot.

NOW CASTING: Non-Union

Tad: A small ratty looking man in his 40s. Low-level factory worker. Despite a lifetime of being bullied, he retains a somewhat positive outlook on life. He?s friendly but talkative to the point of droning on and on. Mostly slow, sedate demeanor.

Gene, the boss: A heavy-set man in his 50s or early 60s. Factory foreman. He's grumpy, especially at work, and is often exasperated at his workers. At home he's more relaxed and less grumpy, almost friendly even. He's disheveled looking and can never keep his office organized. He has a gravely barking voice and wears thick ugly glasses, which he squints through.

Lindsey: average height or tall. Thin, and impoverished looking, though a voracious eater; early 30s approximately; inelegant demeanor; movement tends to be jerky and forceful; speaks with a rackety child-like voice; long ratty dirty-blonde hair, good-hearted, long-suffering girlfriend of Carl.

Ring Leader: Big beefy factory worker in his mid thirties approximately (could be younger or older though). Well over six feet tall and menacing. He likes to get rowdy and let loose with his buddies. He has a devious grin and communicates more through body language, facial expressions and grunts than through actual words. He?s a bully but not especially mean spirited. Physique is big but not overly muscular, i.e. not a body-builder.

Ring leader's buddies: 11 men of various ages and builds. Low level factory workers. An ensemble of rowdy rough looking guys, each with his own distinct idiotic laugh.

Uncle Steak: middle aged blue-collar man. Energetic. Obnoxious but friendly. Constantly making dumb jokes at the expense of whoever is nearby and laughing idiotically.

Gene's Wife: middle aged blue-collar woman. Strong and motherly in a strict, cautious, but loving way. Protective of her own. Polite towards but suspicious of outsiders.

Lindsey's Ex: big burly man: crazed eyed and shirtless, sort of a caveman or mountain man, long-haired and bearded.

Wayne: large black working class man in his late 20s to mid 30s, very intense personality, friendly, very self assured and practically incapable of seeing things any other way but his own.

Mr. Loud: loud over-confident middle-aged businessman.

Ms. Tsk: middle-aged businesswoman, energetic, very professional, self confident, chatty and judgmental. Has a habit of expressing disapproval in a rapid, staccato string of squirrel-like sounds.

Mr. Friendly: businessman in his late 30s or older, friendly but patronizing, exaggerated interest in other's lives.

Mr. Restraint: middle-aged businessman, friendly demeanor barely conceals a raging temper, which he struggles to suppress. His intentions are sinister and self-serving.

Mr. Pragmatic: middle-aged businessman, attempts to seem as though he has an opinion, while mostly just echoing or half-heartedly protesting the opinions of those around him.

Mr. Diplomatic: middle-aged businessman, friendly and reassuring. No nonsense attitude.

Mr. Genuine: middle-aged businessman, slick, like a politician or paid pitchman. million dollar smile and hairdo. Mr. Crusty: businessman in his 60s or 70s, stern and impatient, has hawk-like eyes.

Cafeteria Server: skinny man in his 60s or older. Cranky, muttering, disrespected, hard working.

TRACY
age 16, Caucasian, normal height and build.
Tracy is thoughtful, quiet, and takes pleasure in the simple things in life. She wishes that she was closer to her mother, who is very shut off emotionally. Tracy suffers from insomnia, and it seems to be getting worse and worse with each day. Not to mention Tracy is growing to suspect that a malevolent paranormal force is following her. Tracy is a living portrait of the fears of every person's high school years: the fear of being watched, of being found out, of someone somehow knowing all of your secrets just by looking at you.

CLAUDETTE age 46, Caucasian, tall and slender
Claudette comes from money. Her family has always been rich. They are like the Kennedys or the Hearsts or the Rockefellers. Therefore, Claudette has never worked a day in her life. She knows very little of life outside of her family's mansion, the country club, and the booze-soaked parties. And quite frankly, she doesn't care to know about the outside world. She trusts absolutely no one, and cannot understand her daughter Tracy's desire to be more involved in the outside world. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that Claudette suspects that a shadowy figure from her past that has haunted her for years is now haunting Tracy...
