The Tripod Initiative- Emerging Team

The Tripod Initiative is a program of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office that matches professional filmmakers with students to produce projects that serve our community. By the creation of these videos and interaction with the mentors, the students learn more about jobs in film and video production, while strengthening their production skills. In 2008, we piloted a team of Emerging Filmmakers, the first independent Tripod team (not been affiliated with a school). This took us one step closer to bringing this program to students of all ages. The Emerging Team, mentored by J. Palmer Enfield: Shawn McMullen, Producer; Andrew Harmon, Co-Director; Steve McCann, Co-Director; Francesco Pinna, Director of Photography; Maria Briones, Assistant Camera; Melissa Pastras, Location/Post Audio; Bill Garvey, Editor; Joe Moser, Composer/Audio Post. The Emerging Team produced three videos for the Greater Philadelphia Film Office- a locations video, the "Green" launch and an overview of Greater Philadelphia Filmmakers services. Quote our 2008 Tripod Emerging Team: Being part of the Tripod Emerging Filmmakers team gave us the opportunity to not only be able to sharpen our skills as a writes, directors, producers, shooters, sound operators but also provided us with many other great benefits, like being introduced to the most creative and resourceful group of collaborators we had the privilege to work with. It is comforting to know that we can reach out to a core group of talented people and produce a project that exceeds what was conceptualized. Shooting in amazing locations is another fond memory we will carry with us from the program. With the assistance of the GPFO, we were able to go to the dark corners of Eastern State Penitentiary, the rooftops of skyscrapers in Center City, the tourist-less Independence Hall and Liberty Bell amongst many other typically hard-to-shoot places, and it was just a dream come true. Participating in this program will be a stepping stone towards furthering our careers as filmmakers. The Greater Philadelphia Film Office should be recognized on a national level for the work they do not only to bring big productions to the area, but more so for the programs that help local emerging filmmakers like those that were a part of this team. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G462FvymQ0Y
