Brad Robinson
Filmmaker Brad Robinson knows first hand the long, hard journey that is the film business. The Manayunk resident, who is a 2000 graduate from Penn State University, says he spent 'more time then not' doing odd jobs such as substitute teaching and delivering beer when in between the scarce film gigs upon graduation.
Through hard work and persistence, Brad joined the Director's Guild of America as an assistant director in the fall of 2006. His credits as an AD include the up-coming feature films
Dan in Real Life, Cover, and
The Happening as well as the Philadelphia shoots for the F/X show,
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Also during that time, Brad wrote, produced, and directed the full-length independent feature film,
Public Interest. The film, produced by Nomad Productions, is a dark satire whose subject is a fictitious reality television program, the people responsible for putting it on the air, and the horrible things that go wrong with it. ''It is a really fun look at not only how crazy the phenomenon has become, but also how crazy it could easily get.' Public Interest was shot primarily in and around the Philadelphia area with several members of the Philadelphia filmmaking community lending a helping hand. 'That was one of the great things about having worked in Philly for so long. From casting, to getting equipment, to finding a crew' Robinson says, 'I was able to call on so many people I've been lucky enough to work with and get their help.'
Public Interest made its world premiere at the Inaugural Wildwood By the Sea Film Festival and won “Best Feature Film” at the IRIS Film Festival this past month. More information about the film can be found at
