POSITION: The Department of Performing Arts at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design seeks candidates for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor for its Master of Science in Arts Administration (AADM) program. The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level, but a more senior appointment is possible for an exceptionally qualified candidate.

One of the first programs of its type in the nation, Drexel’s Arts Administration graduate program strives to provide the highest quality education for our students by integrating management practice, theory, and practicum into the curriculum. Classes incorporate commerce, research, technology for a multi-disciplinary course of study. Our program emphasizes business areas such as marketing and policy development to prepare students for careers as arts managers and leaders in the field. The program also serves as a link between the arts and the community, working closely with local and national arts and cultural organizations in research and consulting opportunities.

The college is seeking an individual for this position who can offer a combination of working experience in the field, a broad understanding of cultural policy (including knowledge of trends within the cultural and nonprofit sectors), and an ability to thrive in a dynamic and energetic academic environment.

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE: A minimum of seven years of professional experience in arts management, including the nonprofit cultural sector, and knowledge of cultural policy demonstrated through publications and/or applied work in the field are required. An advanced degree in arts administration, business or a related field or senior level work in the field including demonstrated national or major market leadership experience is desired. Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience, have published research (either theoretical or applied), and are able to present a research agenda for future publications. Experience working with diverse groups is desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach courses in many of the following subject areas: marketing/promotion for the arts, fund development and board relations, leadership in the arts, human resource management for the arts, and other arts administration topics as needed. Administrative responsibilities include advising students, advising student research and theses, serving on college and university committees, and cultivating alumnae/i. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate across disciplines and to be active in the field on a national and international level.

Eventide is instituting a WEB 2.0 marketing initiative for their award winning, critically acclaimed horror short “Of Darkness”. This DIY distribution endeavor will take the assistance of young, sharp, motivated, web savvy individuals to carry out marching orders as digital foot soldiers. From the comfort of their own home (or dorm, coffee house, internet cafe), these folks will be asked to spend 8-10 hours per week on social sites like Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, etc, in an effort to spread world-wide (web) awareness of Eventide & their current project arsenal. They will be working directly under a WEB 2.0 marketing guru, & enjoy the unique opportunity to gain insight into this essential aspect of the indie filmmaking process. The collaborative effort put forth at this stage, on Eventide’s behalf, will also place these individuals at the front of the line when the Company begins crewing up for their feature film debut “Indigo Falls”.
