Opened in 1927, the central location of the Free Library of Philadelphia was modeled after buildings along the Place de la Concorde in Paris. A stunning Beaux Arts building with limestone columns, marble stairs and hallways, high ceilings, and a variety of unusual nooks and crannies, it is available for use as a film site.
Not only is the building a fantastic site for filming, but the Free Library contains invaluable resources for research. The Print and Picture Department holds more than a million prints and pictures and covers nearly every subject imaginable, including Philadelphiana, Americana, drawings and prints from the WPA Art Project. The Regional Foundation Center provides resources for fund raising. Other collections of interest to filmmakers include the Theatre Collection with more than a million items on theater, film, television, radio, and variety shows, the Automotive Collection with books and photographs of the auto since its creation, The Rare Book Department, and the Drinker Library of Choral Music.
