Independence Square and its surrounding blocks are designated as Independence National Historical Park (INHP). “The most historic square mile in America” includes Independence Hall, Franklin Court, Liberty Bell Center, Carpenters’ Hall, Congress Hall, Second Bank of the U.S. and more.
If you are thinking of filming in INHP, please contact the Film Office first. We can refer you to the right person for additional information and permits, as some of the properties are operated by organizations and societies other than the federal government. As a general rule, however, any INHP property is subject to the guidelines for filming which follow.
At least one park ranger will be automatically assigned to all production crews filming within a Park building. If you are filming in the larger buildings, a museum curator and a park electrician may also be assigned.
A permit is required if the filming, video taping, sound recording or still photography involves product or service advertisement, or the use of models, sets, or props, or when the filming has the potential to cause damage to park resources or interfere with visitation.
Permit application can be completed and faxed to the Film office at (215)686-3659. Additional information regarding filming permits in INHP can be obtained from the park’s web site: www.nps.gov.
Permits for exteriors are only required when the conditions mentioned above are met.
The filming of building interiors is generally scheduled to take place either before or after visiting hours. These film events will be staffed with the appropriate personnel required to protect the resource. Interior filming is restricted to those projects which are related to the interpretive themes of the park.
In most cases Permittees are required to submit proof of liability insurance along with the permit application.
All Permittees entering the secured area of the park must submit their person and equipment to a security check.
INHP assumes no responsibility for providing parking for any vehicle(s) used by the Permittee.
The permit application fee is $50.00. Additionally, those issued permits will be billed for any expenses incurred by the park in conjunction with the filming.
